The COF Africa Pad a Girl Project is a menstrual health and dignity initiative by the Christiana Omosigho Foundation (COF Africa) dedicated to ensuring that girls, particularly those in underserved and low-income communities, have access to essential menstrual hygiene products, accurate information, and the confidence to manage their periods with dignity.
For many young girls, menstruation comes with challenges that extend far beyond physical discomfort. Limited access to sanitary pads, inadequate menstrual health education, financial hardship, and the stigma surrounding menstruation can affect a girl’s confidence, participation in school, and everyday life. No girl should have to choose between attending school and managing her period safely.
Through the Pad a Girl Project COF Africa provides sanitary pads and menstrual hygiene materials to girls who need them most while creating safe spaces for open and empowering conversations about menstrual health, personal hygiene, self-esteem, and wellbeing.
We believe providing sanitary pads is only one part of the solution. Girls also need knowledge, support, and an environment where menstruation is treated as a normal part of life rather than something to be hidden or ashamed of.
Our outreach programmes therefore combine the distribution of menstrual products with menstrual health education and awareness. Girls are equipped with practical knowledge about understanding their menstrual cycles, maintaining proper hygiene, caring for themselves during their periods, and speaking confidently about their health.
By addressing both access and education, the Pad a Girl Project seeks to break harmful misconceptions surrounding menstruation and help young girls approach this important stage of their lives with greater confidence.
