The COF Africa Menstrual Hygiene Grant is an empowerment and health-support initiative created to improve access to menstrual hygiene products and resources for girls and young women, particularly those from underserved and financially vulnerable communities.

For many girls, managing menstruation safely and with dignity remains a monthly challenge. The recurring cost of sanitary products, limited access to menstrual health information, and social stigma can place an unnecessary burden on young women and their families. In some cases, girls may miss school, withdraw from activities, or resort to inadequate alternatives simply because they cannot afford appropriate menstrual products.

At COF Africa, we believe that menstruation should never limit a girl’s education, confidence, health, or opportunities.

Providing Practical Support

Through the Menstrual Hygiene Grant, COF Africa provides targeted support to help beneficiaries meet their menstrual hygiene needs. The initiative is designed to reduce the financial pressure associated with accessing sanitary products while promoting healthier and safer menstrual practices.

Beyond immediate assistance, the grant represents something equally important: dignity and independence. When a girl has reliable access to the products she needs, she can focus on her education, participate confidently in everyday activities, and manage her menstrual cycle without unnecessary fear or embarrassment.

Education Alongside Support

Access to menstrual products must be accompanied by access to the right information.

As part of our menstrual hygiene initiatives, COF Africa promotes education around menstrual health, personal hygiene, understanding the menstrual cycle, and challenging harmful myths and stigma surrounding menstruation.

By encouraging open and informed conversations, we aim to create an environment where girls feel comfortable asking questions, seeking support, and making informed decisions about their health.

Protecting Education and Opportunity

A period should never be the reason a girl misses an opportunity.

The Menstrual Hygiene Grant seeks to help reduce period-related barriers that can interfere with school attendance and participation. Supporting a girl’s menstrual hygiene needs means supporting her ability to remain present in the classroom, pursue her ambitions, and participate fully in her community.

Our work is driven by the belief that something as natural as menstruation should never become a disadvantage.
